Soft Ferocious DateJust 41 by Maryam Ahmed Alassiri is a Splendore Unique art watch, its dial hand-painted by the Qatari artist Maryam Ahmed Alassiri for the Themeless project. A tiger’s gaze meets the wings of a monarch butterfly across the dial: strength and ferocity, softened by something gentle.
In Maryam’s words: “Some people have animal-like qualities, and we may find strength and ferocity within us, but to overcome its severity, we need to resemble another gentle being, and both of them unite and express us.”
Painted over eight days in acrylic and oil, then sealed with a UV-cured finish, the dial is free of numerals so the painting holds the whole face. This is a 1-of-1 art dial, and the watch is accompanied by a certificate from the artist verifying that the dial was painted by her.
